Traditional Caerphilly Cheese Collage.
Part of my new series of collages based around lost and forgotten foods from the UK. Each collaged person holds a unique and special food item and is dressed in clothes I have designed, inspired by historic photos.
Here is a traditionally made Caerphilly cheese. A beautiful stone coloured cheese with a creamy inside. Salty, sharp and a bit crumbly too. Made with raw milk, the beautiful stone coloured truckles usually weighing from 2-5kg. Traditional farmhouse style Caerphilly derives from South Wales with variations found across the boarder in Somerset. It used to be particularly popular in markets around mining towns and villages near to Caerphilly. The modern “Caerphilly” is quite different to its older counterpart! Due to the war and rationing, cheese production streamlined and farm house versions became less and less made. However some incredible producers and farms continue to make this delicious cheese across Wales and Somerset.
Paper size: A5 torn to size
